Deaf Awareness Week: Celebrating Deaf Identity and Promoting Positive Terminology

Deaf Awareness Week is a time to celebrate Deaf identity, promote Deaf culture, and advocate for equal access to communication and services for the Deaf and hard of hearing community. Join us to explore the importance of using positive language around Deafness and to learn about available resources and support.

Using Positive Language Around Deafness and Hard of Hearing

Our Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) service embraces positive terminology to support the Deaf community.

We follow the Positive Terminology guidance by the British Association of Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People (BATOD), co-authored by Martine Monkfield, a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf on our SEND Sensory Support team.
