There are lots of fun and fabulous events and activities taking place across our libraries in Haringey throughout this week, so here are a few highlights.

Wednesday 7 May:

Come along to Hornsey Library tomorrow afternoon (3:30pm-4:30pm) and design your own hedgehog hat and badge during an arts and crafts session to mark Hedgehog Awareness Week!

You’ll also have the opportunity to learn some facts about this fascinating animal and help create and raise awareness in the process. This activity is suitable for children aged four and above.

There’s also a special evening in store over at our Library of the Month for May, Stroud Green and Harringay, tonight with a free-to-book author talk from the acclaimed historian John Man.

John will be discussing his latest book ‘Conquering the North: China, Russia, Mongolia: 2,000 Years of Conflict’ in which he traces the contours of their uneasy shared histories by travelling along forgotten trade routes and sacred mountains.

Simon Sebag Montefiore says of John: “One could not wish for a better storyteller or analyst than John Man.”

Thursday 8 May:

Head on over to Wood Green Library for our afternoon screening (5pm) of the classic film ‘Some Like It Hot’ (1959, Certificate: PG, Running Time: 121 minutes).

Starring silver screen legends like Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, the blurb for the film reads as follows: “After two male musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women, but further complications set in.” It has a 95% freshness rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website.

Thursday also marks the start of the Islington Art Society’s Spring Art Exhibition inside the Original Gallery at Hornsey Library, where a wide variety of art forms – ceramics, collage, drawings, original prints, paintings, photography and sculpture – will all be on display.

Here are the opening times for the exhibition, which is free to enter and closes at 3pm on Sunday 18 May:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 9am – 7pm.
Wednesday: 10am – 7pm.
Saturday: 9am – 5pm.
Sunday: 12noon – 4pm.
