The graduation ceremony brought together interns, families, staff, and representatives from the various teams, organisations and businesses that hosted placements over the past year.
Interns were placed across a wide range of settings—both within the council and in the wider community. This included placements in council services such as libraries, children’s centres, and other community teams, as well as with local organisations like The Record Shop and businesses such as McDonald’s.
Halle, 23, completed her second year in the programme with placements at Marcus Garvey Library, Wood Green Library, and Woodside Children's Centre. “I’ve never worked with children before and have learned that it’s something I really enjoy and would like to do in the future,” she said. “Now I know that I would like to work at a nursery because of the experience I’ve gained.”
She also shared how the support she received made a difference: “I feel more comfortable when I get extra support,” she said. “This was my first job and internship experience, and I feel more ready to get a job now.”
The success of the programme is a result of the hard work and commitment shown by the interns throughout the year. Their efforts were supported by the SEND Supported Employment Team, job coaches, tutors, and the many mentors and employers who provided guidance and opportunities in the workplace. Together, they helped create valuable experiences that supported each intern’s development and next steps toward employment.
Applications are now open for next year’s cohort!
