Haringey Council has joined forces with Thames Water and Policy in Practice to get support direct to families who need it most without having to apply.

New figures show almost £700,000 in total has helped 1,687 low-income households through the deduction to water bills.

The approach safely matches local data with water accounts to identify who is eligible and gets them onto reduced tariffs such as WaterHelp and WaterSure.

It comes as crucial relief to residents on the lowest incomes, as water bills rose by £123 (26%) on average across the sector over the last year.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Resident Services and Tackling Inequality, said:

We know our residents are facing huge cost of living pressures.

This scheme is ensuring help with water bills is getting to the people who need it most – and it’s working.  This is real, practical support that is making a difference.

If you live in Haringey and you are worried about your next bill, we are here to help.  Let’s make sure you get the support you are entitled to.

Since the start of the campaign 1,665 households were automatically enrolled into WaterHelp and 22 into WaterSure.

The Extra Support Scheme worth up to £700 off arrears also helped 231 households in Haringey.
