Over 10 sessions, participants gained hands‑on experience in hospitality - from food preparation and health & safety to communication and customer service - while boosting their confidence and career prospects.
The course ended with a celebration event where they showcased their skills to families, staff, youth justice partners, and local restaurants.
Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools & Families, said:
This programme is a fantastic way to equip young people with vital skills, confidence, and career pathways.
Collaboration with our community is essential as it takes a collective effort to ensure the next generation can thrive.
Working with local businesses like The Dusty Knuckle bakery provides hands‑on experience that builds ambition, resilience, and practical knowledge. These foundations are key to preparing young people for success and future employment.
Building on the success of the previous cohort, this new group of young people are ready to rise. Of the eleven students who completed the course last term, six went on to further training or secured paid roles with The Dusty Knuckle bakery.
Others stepped into paid training opportunities, with two sustaining long‑term employment after graduation. Every participant reported a boost in confidence, motivation, and a clearer path towards their future.
Funded by Haringey Youth Justice Service and delivered with The Dusty Knuckle bakery, the initiative highlights the service’s creativity and innovation.
This partnership reflects the council’s broader commitment to empowering Haringey’s young people by providing meaningful opportunities that help shape brighter, more positive futures.
