Making a difference: how feedback and audits help us improve

Quality Assurance (QA) plays a vital role in shaping how we support children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It helps us understand what’s working well, where we can improve, and do our best so that families receive the best possible outcome from our service.

Two types of audits

Our QA work includes a range of quality assurance activity such as listening to feedback from families and partners, two strands of audits have a key focus as follows:

EHCP Audits

These reviews began in October 2021 and focus on the quality of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Each month, a sample of plans is checked to identify strengths and areas for development. This process ensures consistency and helps improve the quality of plans for children and young people.

Multi-Agency Audits

These take place quarterly and involve SEND, health, and social care partners. The aim is to review how well services work together and the impact of support provided. These audits allow partners to reflect, learn, and strengthen collaboration, ensuring better outcomes for families.

How this work has made a difference

Our 2024 SEND inspection highlighted improvements in the quality of EHCPs. Audits have been key to driving these changes, helping us focus on what matters most for children and young people.

Celebrating success with Feedback Fridays

Alongside audits, we run Feedback Fridays to share positive feedback from families and colleagues. Each Friday, one piece of feedback is shared across teams to recognise great work, boost morale, and promote best practice. It’s a simple way to celebrate the impact staff have every day.

Mayglen Griffith, EHCP Co-ordinator

I have been meaning to email for so long to say thank you in writing for all your help and support in the time that we were helping my daughter to navigate her path towards GCSEs and beyond. You were such a support to her and to me too during a really difficult time and I will be forever grateful.

I wanted to write so you knew how grateful I am. I know there must be so much that you did behind the scenes that I did not know about, and I know you must have stressful times, sometimes with unhappy parents, so please know that I am one of the happy and grateful ones and you do an amazing job!

Natalia Spassova, EHCP Co-ordinator

Just a quick message to say thank you very much for your efforts last term in helping to update my daughters EHCP so speedily, efficiently and thoughtfully. Thank you, Natalia, for being so responsive when I called on you for help. My daughter is settling in at her new school after securing great grades… Thank you.

Rosa Brackley, EHCP Co-ordinator

I just wanted to point out the great work that Rosa Brackley has been doing since she has been my case worker.  In all my years as SENDCO, I have never felt so supported by a case worker.  She is efficient and is always sending me updates without me having to chase them.

Looking ahead

Quality Assurance is more than a process—it’s about listening, learning, and improving together.

By combining audits with initiatives like Feedback Fridays, we’re building a culture of reflection and appreciation, ensuring our services continue to meet the needs of children, young people, and families.
