With the council working hard to reverse a backlog of inherited maintenance issues and repairs, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, has been to our Tottenham Green facility to see how we’re trying to make the user experience even better there.
The main sports hall is set to be fully refurbished, with brand new flooring, netting and paintwork.
The fresh netting will allow the centre to be flexible in terms of the activities and events offered in the main sports hall, where two sports may be able to be accommodated safely and securely instead of just one.
New gym equipment is also set to be installed at Tottenham Green and Park Road, ensuring members and residents can work out on fully functional and well-maintained apparatus and machinery.
New locker doors have also been delivered to Tottenham Green and are expected to replace any damaged or missing stock in the near future.
The gym at New River Leisure Centre has already benefitted from similar such improvements and upgrades, with new cardio and weight equipment following its refurbishment in December 2022.
Meanwhile, we’ve partnered with Level Water to offer part-funded swimming lessons for primary school-aged children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Swimming teachers at Tottenham Green have been provided with specialist disability training to support children with SEND until they’re ready to safely join group lessons, helping them gain confidence and independence in the water – as well as an invaluable life skill – in the process.
If you – or anyone you know – would benefit from these subsidised and specialist 1:1 swimming lessons, please visit the Level Water website, click ‘Apply Now’ and fill out their online application form.
Level Water will contact you when they have a slot to offer your child. They fund lessons for children who are aged between four and 11 with SEND and cannot swim 10 metres unaided (Stage 3 or below).
