Energy statement requirements for minor developments

Part of: Planning application process

This guidance is for design and energy consultants, architects, and developers preparing minor planning applications in Haringey. It outlines the energy and sustainability information required to support applications and ensure compliance with planning policies.

Developments this applies to

You must submit an energy statement if your application either:

  • creates 1 to 9 new residential dwellings
  • creates under 1,000 m² of new non-residential floorspace

This includes new buildings and extensions that result in new floorspace.

Policies that must be addressed

Your energy statement must demonstrate compliance with:

Haringey Local Plan

  • SP4: Working towards a Low Carbon Haringey
  • DM21: Sustainable Design and Construction

London Plan (Chapter 9)

  • SI2: Minimising Greenhouse Gas Emissions
  • SI3: Energy Infrastructure
  • SI4: Managing Heat Risk

Guidance you should follow

Energy statements must be prepared in line with the Mayor of London’s 2022 Energy Assessment Guidance and include:

  • the GLA carbon emissions reporting spreadsheet
  • SAP/BRUKL output sheets

Help to prepare your energy statement

We’ve produced a concise 8-page guide to help you understand the requirements and prepare a compliant submission. This guide should be used alongside the Mayor of London guidance to ensure all relevant issues are addressed early in the planning process, helping to avoid delays
