Bruce Grove Station improvements

Bruce Grove Station is an important local landmark and key transport hub for residents, businesses, and visitors to the area.

We are working in partnership with Transport for London (TfL), Arriva, Network Rail, ArchCo and the Railway Heritage Trust to improve Bruce Grove station, make it more accessible and look at ways to activate the unused arches.

Restoration of the station waiting room

Works to the restoration of the station waiting room are now complete.

As part of the council’s High Streets Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) (external link) project, we carried out a detailed condition survey and feasibility study of the station building. This highlighted that repair works were required.

Starting in late summer 2023, Arriva Rail London have delivered a comprehensive repair to the disused waiting rooms on the Southbound platform. Fully funded by Transport for London (TfL), the works were completed in December 2023 and have resulted in extensive structural repairs and a sympathetic refurbishment of the waiting room.

Works completed

The programme of works were carefully considered to ensure lasting improvements to the station and included the renovation of the disused station rooms to create four new spaces for residents and businesses.

This includes a new:

  • community space
  • waiting room
  • staff mess room
  • maintenance storage facility.

The waiting room and community space pay homage to the station’s history with Victorian-inspired features, including handcrafted reproduction benches.

Details of the use and hiring arrangements of the community space will be finalised by TfL and Arriva Rail London soon.

Next steps on wider Bruce Grove station improvements

Bruce Grove station has a complex ownership structure:

  • Network Rail hold the freehold for the entire site
  • TfL have a lease for the station
  • Arriva Rail London are entrusted by TfL to operate the station
  • The ArchCo have a lease of the arches below the station and the forecourt facing Tottenham High Road

While we can’t control all the changes that take place, we are liaising closely with partners to seek further improvements beyond the station itself, including the forecourt and arches, and potential step-free access.

We are committed to helping bring forward repairs and improvements to the station and its environment.
