Music exams

Haringey Music Service is a registered exam centre for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity College London.  

Who can book an exam through us 

You can book an exam through us if your child is having instrumental or vocal lessons through Haringey Music Service.

Depending on space in our exam session, we can sometimes offer exam spaces to students learning privately.

If your child is taking an ABRSM exam Grade 6 and above, they must have already passed their Grade 5 theory exam. 

Book a music exam 

You and your child’s music teacher will decide which is the best exam board for your child.  

To apply for an exam you must complete our form which must be agreed by the music teacher.

Exam information 

We hold ABRSM exams in July and December each year. We are sometimes also able to offer ABRSM exams in March depending on interest. Please contact hms@haringey.gov.uk to check when our next exam dates will be.

Trinity exams are hosted according to interest and availability. If Haringey Music Service is not holding an exam session, we are able to help you enter your child at a different exam centre in North London.

Once you apply, we'll let you know the exact time and day of the exam by email, at least 2 weeks before the exam. 

Unless your child is taking a piano or guitar exam, they will need a piano accompanist. We can provide an accompanist for £15 if requested. This includes a run-through before your exam. Extra rehearsals can be arranged by contacting us. 

Photocopied music is not allowed. Only the original score/manuscript is accepted.
