Childhood vaccinations
Vaccination is the safest and most effective way of protecting against serious diseases. Visit the Childhood vaccinations webpage for information about childhood vaccination, and childhood vaccination schedule.
Social stories: helping children with SEND prepare for vaccinations
Children with SEND often have lower vaccination rates than their peers. To help address this, the public health team has worked with schools and parents to develop social stories that support SEND pupils through the vaccination process.
A social story explains a situation or event in clear, step-by-step terms. It helps children understand what will happen and why, making the experience feel more predictable and less stressful.
You can download the social story PowerPoint, along with guides for parents and teachers, from our website. We recommend sharing the social story around a week before the scheduled vaccination date.
