Community Paediatrics (NHS)

This is an NHS-run service. The Community Paediatric service is for children aged 0-18 (or up to 19 if still attending school) with developmental problems or disabilities and associated health problems.

The service covers the following areas:

  • Assessment and management of children with developmental conditions, including cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome and other genetic conditions.
  • The Social Communication and Autism Assessment team contributes to the multidisciplinary assessment for autism as part of the NHS Haringey Social Communication Team.
  • Statutory medical assessment of children undergoing Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) needs assessment.
  • Manage children with complex needs, including learning and/or physical disabilities in special schools. Currently the service has clinics in four special schools: The Vale School, The Brook School, Riverside School, and Haringey Sixth Form.
  • Provide child protection assessments, follow-up services and attend child protection meetings, conferences, and inter-agency strategic planning meetings.
  • Initial health assessments for children taken into the care of the local authority and follow-ups for those undergoing adoption and fostering.

How to get this support if you're a parent/carer:

Referrals are accepted from from all professionals, including Haringey GPs, health visitors, speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, school and nursery staff, hospital paediatricians and clinical and educational psychologists.
