Working with Children
- Our Portage Visitors maintain a caseload of children, visiting them weekly or fortnightly.
- They collaborate closely with parents and professionals to identify the child's developmental stage and understand family aspirations.
- Modelling play ideas, lending toys, and suggesting activities help facilitate the child's progress while incorporating specialist advice into daily play.
- We partner with the Specialist Health Visiting and Vision Support teams to host the Huddle, a supportive playgroup for children under 5 with SEND.
- At the Huddle, families can access guidance on toileting, sleep, behaviour, learning, play, resources, and transitioning to the nursery, all within a fun and supportive environment.
Supporting Parents
- Portage Visitors work alongside parents to help them navigate the early years and SEND systems.
- They assist parents in recording the child's progress and effective strategies, ensuring smooth transitions to educational settings.
- They support parents in engaging with community activities and resources and accessing available funding to promote comprehensive community involvement.
Collaborating with Schools and Settings
- Our team assists parents in finding a suitable nursery or school for their child.
- They work closely with the school, family, and other professionals to ensure the right support is in place.
- Their goal is to help the child settle quickly and make progress in their new educational setting.
