Adult mental health support from community organisations

Many of us will experience some form of mental ill-health in our lives.

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or other forms of mental distress it is important to get help as soon as possible. The sooner help is given, the sooner recovery can begin.

Please see our help in a crisis page if you or someone you know is in crisis.

For less urgent issues, there is a lot we can do to improve our mental health and wellbeing – please see our mental health and wellbeing page.

Haringey projects

The council and NHS work with charities and other organisations to provide a range of things that are available to support you around mental health. Information on all services is available at Haricare, but some of the main projects are listed here.

  • Haringey Wellbeing Network (external link) offers the main point of access into support around mental health outside of the NHS. Run by a partnership that is led by Mind in Haringey, the network provides a range of advice, support and things to do which are aimed at addressing the causes of distress and avoiding things getting more serious - a range of group and one to one support that aims to prevent mental health problems, promote mental wellbeing and ensure those with mental health problems are respected and included in our local community.
  • Let’s Talk Haringey (external link) is a free NHS evidence-based talking therapy service for people 16 years old and over, who are worried or have low mood. They offer a range of treatment programmes including one to one therapy, counselling and group work. An animated video from NHS England will tell you more about talking therapies for common mental health issues such as anxiety and depression Bernie's Story (external link).
  • Mind in Haringey (external link) offer a range of services outside of the Wellbeing Network, including counselling and veterans support.
  • Safe Haven Helpline is a safe, confidential helpline for anyone living in, or who has a GP, in Haringey and is aged 18+.
    You can telephone 0800 953 0223 - 7 days a week, 5-9 pm, including bank holidays.
  • Thrive to Work - Haringey and Enfield (external link) - Individual Placement Support (IPS) in Primary Care is an employment support programme for residents with a mental or physical health condition. It can help with finding new, meaningful employment or provide support for participants to stay in their current role. The programme follows the IPS model which means working with an employment specialist who will create a personalised approach to help with finding employment and continue to support participants when they are placed in the role.
The service is delivered by Shaw Trust, the country’s largest social enterprise in the employment sector. For further information email info.thrive@thrivehe.com or call 0808 134 6214.
  • Twining Enterprise Haringey (external link) - a tailored employment support service to help individuals with mental health challenges find work, further education or training. Referrals typically come from Haringey’s community mental health teams, where employment specialists are integrated to enact a joined up service to support recovery and enroll clients at any stage of their recovery. Underpinned by the IPS model, the service aims to get more than 30% of clients engaging in the service into employment and has had great success in recent years, during the pandemic and with some of Haringey’s most disadvantaged communities.
The service is delivered by Twining Enterprise, one of London’s leading mental health and employment charities. For further information please contact m.groza@twiningenterprise.org.uk
