Speed reduction measures on Ferme Park Road N4/N8

Plan to replace the current speed reduction measures on Ferme Park Road.

Speed reduction measures were introduced on Ferme Park Road in 2024 in response to speeding and safety concerns.

The community have been sharing feedback on these measures:

  • through the public meeting on 6 March at the Union Church and Community Centre
  • directly to the Crouch End ward councillors

The main concerns raised by residents include:

  • noise
  • vibrations
  • structural damage to properties

Following the public meeting on 6 March 2025, council officers met with the Crouch End ward councillors, the Cabinet Member for Resident Services and Tackling Inequality and the director of resident experience, to review residents’ feedback and to agree a way forward. An agreement was reached to conduct a further engagement exercise with the local community, with the following traffic calming amendment proposals:

  • remove the 6 speed tables, where complaints had been received
  • implement 20mph roundels, ‘SLOW’ road markings and two vehicle-activated signs (VAS)
  • progress to statutory consultation on proposals to implement 2 traffic islands, which will result in a loss of parking

We carried out an engagement exercise between 1 May to 23 May, to determine if the proposed amendments to Ferme Park Road’s speed reduction measures scheme, should proceed. We received 90 responses during the public consultation period, 54 (60%) in support, 27 (30%) in objection and 9 (10%), who had other views on the proposals.

View the approved engagement report, which includes all objections and officer response to the objections, along with officers recommendations.

In view of the majority support, we took the decision to replace the 6 speed tables with 20mph roundels and ‘SLOW’ road markings. These works were completed in August 2025. The VAS outside 66 Ferme Park Road was installed in December 2025. However, installation of the VAS outside 238 Ferme Park Road has been delayed due to manufacturer lead times.

It was also agreed that the council would proceed to statutory consultation on the proposal to introduce 2 traffic islands on Ferme Park Road, which will result in the loss of approximately 20 parking spaces. Statutory consultation took place from 1 October to 23 October 2025. The proposal is outlined as follows:

  • outside 266-260: introduce a traffic island. Parking provision will be reduced on both sides of the road, total loss approximately 8 spaces
  • outside 66-60: parking provision will be reduced on both sides of the road, total loss approximately 12 spaces

You can also view the statutory notification letter and plan on the completed consultations page.

Next steps

A scheme report is currently being finalised and will be presented to the head of highways and parking following consultation with the Cabinet Member for Tackling Inequality and Resident Services for review and approval. The report will include all objections received, officers’ responses to those objections, and the officers’ recommendations.

If the scheme is approved for implementation, the local community will receive a works notification letter via post before the works begin.
