Speed reduction measures were introduced on Ferme Park Road in 2024 in response to speeding and safety concerns.
The community have been sharing feedback on these measures:
- through the public meeting on 6 March at the Union Church and Community Centre
- directly to the Crouch End Ward Councillors
The main concerns raised by residents include:
- noise
- vibrations
- structural damage to properties
Whilst we are all in agreement that Ferme Park Road needs speed reduction measures, there are concerns about those currently in place.
Next steps
Residents have long expressed concerns about safety and speeding so we want to find solutions that meet that objective without disruption to people's lives.
It has been agreed that we will remove the 6 speed tables that have received complaints. These are located on Ferme Park Road at the following locations:
- Outside 264-256 (Fairfield Road junction).
- Outside 234/236.
- Outside 154/156.
- Outside 104/106.
- Outside 69/71.
- Outside 64/66.
As Ferme Park Road is served by the W3 bus, we are liaising with Transport for London to find a suitable date to remove the 6 speed tables and ideally replace them with alternatives at the same time to maintain road safety.
Due to the time needed to consult on alternative measures and to ensure the road network runs smoothly, the removal of the speed tables will be carried out during the school summer holidays.
These works will take 4 to 5 weeks to complete, and we will aim to implement the replacement measures at the same time.
The new proposals will not include speed humps.
Timeline
April/May
A public consultation exercise took place from 1 to 23 May 2025, to seek the local community’s views on alternative measures to be implemented at these 6 locations.
June
Following the public consultation exercise, the consultation feedback was analysed and a scheme report is currently being prepared. The report will include the objections received and our responses to those objections.
July
The scheme report is planned to be presented to the head of highways and parking to consider and take a decision on whether the proposed alternative traffic measures should proceed to statutory consultation. This decision will be taken after consultation with the Cabinet Member for Tackling Inequality and Resident Services.
End of July/August
Residents will receive a works notification letter in July, advising them of:
- the dates that the removal of the 6 speed tables will take place
- the decision taken on the alternative traffic calming measures
August/September
Subject to approval, the statutory consultation exercise on the proposed alternative traffic calming measures will take place. The statutory consultation process is designed to ensure that anyone wishing to object to the proposals will have their views considered and responded to. This process normally runs for 4 weeks but is to be extended by 2 weeks, due to the summer holiday period.
As part of the statutory consultation process, a further report will be prepared, which will include any objections and our responses to the objections and any recommendations.
