In October 2023, the government announced additional funding from the Department for Transport (DfT) for local road resurfacing and wider highways maintenance activity from 2023 to 2024 and for the next 10 years.
This funding has allowed us to carry out approximately 5,900 sq m of road resurfacing works to 5 additional roads in early 2024:
- Kings Avenue, N10
- Landrock Road, N10
- Downhill Park Road, N17
- Beresford Road, N8
- Wood Lane, N6
We chose these roads using data from a recent condition survey of all the public roads in Haringey, as well as on-site inspections by officers from Haringey Council.
The maintenance works on these roads are in addition to our own investment plan, and they follow our approach for allocating funding to the highway network.
This DfT funding now allows us to increase our budgets for essential maintenance works to our roads.
We will continue to follow our established approach for prioritising major highways maintenance works – both using DfT funding and our own resources.
In 2024/2025 we intend to use this funding for resurfacing works on our ‘principal road network’ – these are roads of traffic importance. We’ve chosen sections of 3 roads to be resurfaced:
- Fortis Green, N2
- Park Road, N8
- Westbury Avenue, N22
This is approximately 2,400 sq m of extra road resurfacing. These road sections were chosen after a recent survey identified them as needing essential maintenance. Resurfacing principal roads involves more substantial construction than resurfacing residential roads, which means it’s more expensive.
