Thames Water upgrade works in Crouch End

Thames Water is carrying out major upgrade works in Crouch End as part of their long‑term improvement programme.

Thames Water will soon be carrying out major upgrade works in Crouch End as part of their long‑term programme to reduce leakage and improve the reliability of Haringey’s water supply.

Thames Water is investing around £13 million to replace over 8 kilometres of pipes in Crouch End, serving approximately 3,000 properties.

In order to carry out the works, Thames Water will be putting a number of traffic measures in place, including road closures of Crouch Hill for 9 months, Ridge Road for 5 months and Oakington Way for 2 weeks.

While Thames Water understands the disruption this will cause, the works are vital to ensure a more resilient water network for the future, with smarter technology, stronger systems and environmental benefits for the wider community.

We are working closely with Thames Water to help reduce this disruption as much as possible, and they are committed to minimising noise, vehicle movements and impacts on access.

What the works will deliver

The works will deliver:

  • stronger, modern pipes – new plastic pipes are more durable than the older cast‑iron ones, reducing the chance of bursts
  • more reliable water supply – fewer leaks and disruptions mean a more consistent service for households and businesses
  • environmental benefits – with less leakage, less water needs to be taken from natural sources
  • a long-term solution – these upgrades will help future‑proof the network for generations to come

Project dates

The work on The Broadway and Crouch Hill starts on 9 February 2026 for approximately 9 months. The work will take place between 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 2pm on Saturdays. Thames Water will be working in phases along the road to complete the scheme.
