Meet the author: Christy Lefteri

Introducing successful author Christy Lefteri, who is known for her lyrical and powerful storytelling.

Her writing often explores themes of identity, displacement, and the human condition. Christy was born and raised in London to refugee parents from Cyprus. Her first book 'A Watermelon, A Fish and a Bible' is loosely inspired by the lives of her parents.

Her next book 'The Beekeeper of Aleppo' conveys the story of a married couple who are forced to leave Syria. This book became a Sunday Times bestseller and the winner of the 2020 Aspen Words Literary Prize.

Project Launch: Joyce Butler, The National Woman's MP

Join us for the launch of our exciting new AHRC funded heritage project ‘The National Woman’s MP: Joyce Butler, women's rights and women's liberation from the 1950s to the 1970s’, working in partnership with Dr Lyndsey Jenkins, Mansfield College, University of Oxford.

The two-year project uses the Joyce Butler Archive held Bruce Castle Museum and Archive to commemorate her role in instigating the Sex Discrimination Act (1975), making cervical screening available on the NHS, and her campaigns for better heath, housing and workers’ rights.

Accelerate Action: International Women's Day Health Event

This year's International Women's Day Health Event will include a range of talks, workshops, stalls, and activities open to residents and professionals in the borough.

The event will include information on women's hubs, alcohol and drug treatment clinics, sexual health, sports and more happening in Haringey. The event will also include a gong bath meditation and free lunch for those attending. This event is open to all.
