There are Christmas Craft events at Highgate Library on Fridays (3:30pm-4:30pm, except Friday 27 December – Suitable for ages 3 – 10), and Stroud Green and Harringay Library on Wednesdays (3:30pm-4:30pm, except Christmas Day – Suitable for ages 3 – 10).

You and the kids can also have a ‘Merry Craftmas’ on Saturday mornings at Coombes Croft Library (11am-12noon) or St Ann’s Library (10:30am-12noon). The session at St Ann’s is for children aged four to 12. Instructions will be given by your friendly local librarian, but children under nine should be accompanied by a carer/parent.

Why not build a Santa puppet too next Wednesday (11 December, 10:30am-11am – Suitable for ages 4+) at Alexandra Park Library, where you can also enjoy an author event with Bali Engel doing a reading of her new children’s book ‘The Tree & the Dog’ next Friday morning (13 December, 10:30am-11am – Suitable for ages 0-5).

Christmas cards can be crafted and created at Hornsey Library next Wednesday (11 December, 4pm-5pm – Suitable for ages 3+) and Marcus Garvey Library on Saturday 21 December (10:30am-12noon).

You can also make your own Christmas tree at those two venues later this month – on Monday 16 December (3:30pm-4:30pm – Suitable for ages 4+) at Hornsey and the following day (Tuesday 17 December, 3:30pm-4:30pm) at Marcus Garvey.

Hornsey will play host to ‘Christmas Carols – Rhyme Time’ (Monday 16 December, 10:30am-11am – Suitable for ages 3+) and ‘Christmas Story Time’ sessions (Tuesday 17 December, 10:30am-11am – Suitable for ages 1-5. Children are encouraged to wear Christmas outfits for this event) that week as well.

It will be fun to draw a Cartoon Santa with Comics Club at Stroud Green and Harringay Library on Saturday 14 December (1pm-2:30pm) and you can make your own Hanukkah decorations at Alexandra Park Library on Wednesday 18 December (10:30am-11am – Suitable for ages 4+) or Kwanzaa Paper Plate at Hornsey Library on Thursday 19 December (4pm-5pm).

Everybody loves a festive flick to get into the Christmas spirit so why not check out Frozen (2013, PG, Running Time: 102 minutes) on Saturday 14 December (2:30pm) and Frozen II (2019, U, Running Time: 103 minutes) on Saturday 28 December (2:30pm) at Marcus Garvey Library?

Sandwiched between those two absolute classics is another one in the Will Ferrell Christmas caper Elf (2003, PG, Running Time: 97 minutes) on Saturday 21 December (2:30pm)!

With the shortlist having recently been announced for the 2025 Biblio-Buzz – Alexandra Palace Children’s Book Award, the launch party for this annual competition and literary challenge will officially kick off proceedings at Wood Green Library on next Saturday (14 December, 11am-1pm).

There are also be Biblio-Buzz activities at Coombes Croft Library that very same day (Saturday 14 December, 12noon-1pm) and on Saturday 28 December (12noon-1pm).

While you’re in a Haringey library this month, you may wish to consider donating a brand new and unwrapped present to the Local Buyers Club’s Winter Toy Appeal? The deadline for donations is Monday 16 December.

You’d be very much mistaken for thinking Haringey libraries are just all about children, young people and their families though.

There’s a vast array of author talks, book and community art groups, classes, clubs, courses, film screenings and workshops for adults as well in our monthly What’s On brochure. Check it out today!
