Citizenship

It can take 3 to 4 months from being approved for citizenship to getting a Home Office citizenship ceremony invitation letter. You then have 3 months to have your citizenship ceremony. 

Our citizenship ceremonies:

• are usually done in groups
• are available to you even if you do not live in Haringey (you must request Haringey as the location when applying for citizenship)

Organising your ceremony

We will contact you to arrange your ceremony once we receive your certificate of naturalisation from the Home Office. The Home Office will send us your certificate of naturalisation 2 working days after you get your Home Office invitation letter.

Private citizenship ceremonies

Group ceremonies are free to attend, but we also offer private ceremonies for a fee. Please contact to us to find out more and to book a private ceremony. 

What happens during your citizenship ceremony

New citizens are required to:

• swear an oath
• affirm allegiance to the crown
• promise to be a good citizen

The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and includes:

• an introduction from the Superintendent Registrar
• a presentation of certificates by the Mayor of Haringey (only at group ceremonies), a past mayor, a special dignitary or a Haringey councillor
• the national anthem
• an opportunity to take photos

The fees already paid to the Home Office cover the cost of the ceremony.

Citizenship certificates

Your citizenship certificate is produced by the Home Office and we will present it to you at your ceremony. We are unable to correct any mistakes on the certificate.
