Rateable value and appeals

Part of: How business rates are calculated

We do not value business premises and we have no discretion in the amount you have to pay.

The rateable value is set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) , which is part of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). It is based on the rental value that might have been charged for your property on the open market as at 1 April 2021.

If you would like to see how your property has been valued or make an appeal against your rateable value, contact the VOA directly as they set the value.

If you make an appeal against your rateable value, you must continue to pay your business rates as billed.

Finding your rateable value

You can see the future rateable value for your property and get an estimate of what your business rates bill may be through the Valuation Office Agency’s find a business rates valuation service.
