Pavement licence

Pavement licence eligibility and what happens if you have an alcohol licence.

Who can get a pavement licence

A pavement licence is a permission which allows you to place tables and chairs on the pavement outside and next to your premises.

The application process is quick and easy. Once granted, pavement licences remain in place for 1 year.

When placing tables and chairs outside your premises, you will need to make sure you keep all pedestrian access routes clear, taking into account the needs of all users, including disabled people.

You can keep your licence until it expires. If you want to renew your licence, you will need to submit a renewal application before the expiry date on your current licence.

For more information, see the full pavement licensing guidance on GOV.UK.
