Information for schools

Safeguarding

All Haringey Music Service (HMS) teachers undertake the following checks as per our safer recruitment policy.

They will provide you on request with their DBS number and date of issue for your Single Central Record.

As per KCSiE 2023 all Haringey Instrumental and Vocal teachers have:

  • verification of identity against an official document containing a photograph of the individual, such as a Passport or Driving Licence;
  • verification of address against a Utility Bill issued within the last three months;
  • an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS);
  • a check of the Children's Barred List (this may have been included in the DBS check);
  • receipt of two satisfactory written references and confirmation that there are no concerns about the individual working with children;
  • proof of qualifications (QTS only) that are a requirement for the post they will be undertaking;
  • verification of their right to work in the United Kingdom;
  • a check of their full employment history (since leaving school) with any gaps explained to your satisfaction;
  • verification that the individual is medically fit for the role (ideally completion of a pre-engagement medical form); and
  • where the individual has lived outside the United Kingdom in the last five years for a continuous period of three months or more, confirmation of an overseas criminal records check for the relevant country.

As a large service based across Haringey, we have one Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and two Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) of whom one is also a Mental Health First Aider.

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL): Daniel Earley - 07971837594
  • Deputy DSL: Nick Walker - 07973244027
  • Deputy DSL and Mental Health First Aider: Abi Munson - 07970741517

Details of our DSLs are also available on the  Haringey Music Service safeguarding poster (PDF, 5.6MB)

If an Instrumental or Vocal teacher had a concern, HMS would expect them to inform the DSL or DDSL in your school or setting ideally while on site, they would then follow your policy in recording concerns or disclosures.

They would also complete the HMS record of concern form (external link).

Your DSL can then expect contact from a HMS DSL informing you and sending the ROC to your secure mailbox.

HMS expect all our teachers to know who your school or settings DSLs are by name. Please update them and add this to any induction, event calendars or handbooks you issue our Instrumental or Vocal teachers.
