The staff at the contact centre are trained on supervising contact between children and their loved ones. We offer a range of contact services including:
- fully supervised contact (with a lead worker and includes a report)
- supported contact where we can observe beginnings and endings, also throughout if required (lead worker and short report)
- rehabilitation contacts where there is a schedule of gradually increasing contact which moves to the family home (with a lead worker and includes a report)
- the above services could also be offered to outside agencies, including other Local Authorities for a fee
For further information about the referral process and fees please email Haringey.ContactService@haringey.gov.uk
The aim of the service is to provide a safe, secure and child friendly environment where children can have face-to-face contact with family members. After each contact session family members are given the opportunity to have feedback from the contact supervisor.
After receiving a referral form, supervised contact starts once a contact agreement meeting is held between the parent/family member, the referrer and the Maya Angelou Contact Centre. The aim of this meeting is to jointly agree aims and expectations for everyone during the supervised contact sessions, as well as the dates, times and length of each supervised contact session.
Supervised contact can take place in one of our seven child friendly family rooms. Our family rooms are equipped with changing mats, colourful and comfortable furniture, books and age-appropriate toys for our families to use. You will also have access to our fully functional kitchen where you can prepare food and enjoy mealtime around a table as a family. We encourage families to bring games, food and personal items where appropriate. This can be discussed with each family during the working agreement meeting. . You will have an opportunity to view the facilities and discuss any questions or concerns with the Team Manager and allocated contact supervisor.
