SEND Working Together Charter

The SEND Working Together Charter is a shared commitment to inclusive, collaborative working across Haringey’s SEND system. The aim of the Charter is to represent all stakeholders as equal partners in decision making, promote a values-led approach and present the principles that underpin good working relationships and was launched in March 2025.

It has been co-produced by a working group made up of representatives from SEND Power along with partners from Education, Health and Social Care. which was launched at the Voices Day event in March 2025.

This Charter is not just a statement of values — it’s a practical framework for how we work together, make decisions, and deliver better outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

Why it matters

The Charter ensures that those who design services and those who are directly impacted by them have an equal voice in shaping how support is delivered across Haringey.

  • It brings together families, professionals, and services as equals.
  • It promotes a values-led, inclusive approach across all age groups and service areas.
  • It sets out clear principles for how we communicate, collaborate, and care.
  • It supports the development of training, tools, and shared practices that embed inclusion in everyday work.

Principle 1. Feel welcome and cared for

We create environments where families feel safe, respected, and supported.

We do this by:

  • Providing warm, welcoming spaces.

  • Taking time to understand lived experiences.

  • Being curious and avoiding assumptions.

  • Identifying and removing barriers to access.

Principle 2. Feel valued and included

We recognise and celebrate the strengths and contributions of every family and young person.

We do this by:

  • Acknowledging lived experience.

  • Celebrating successes and progress.

  • Empowering everyone to share their views.

  • Responding in a timely and respectful way.

Principle 3. Work in equal partnership

We make decisions together, from the start, and ensure everyone’s voice is heard.

We do this by:

  • Planning and reviewing actions collaboratively.

  • Valuing all contributions equally.

  • Providing feedback and follow-up.

  • Sharing ownership of outcomes.

Principle 4. Communicate together

We communicate openly, respectfully, and without judgement.

We do this by:

  • Making time for meaningful conversations.

  • Acknowledging different views and experiences.

  • Re-engaging when things go wrong.

  • Using inclusive, accessible language.

Next steps

We’re currently looking at ways to promote, implement and embed the charter across the borough.

About the design
