Postal voting
Postal voting is where we send your ballot paper(s) to you around 10 days before the election. You mark your ballot papers, sign a statement, and post these back to us in a pre-paid envelope we provide.

When and how to apply
You can apply to vote by post at any time – there is no need to wait for an election to be announced. You must be registered to vote first.
The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm, 11 working days before an election. Please see the upcoming elections page for details of the next scheduled elections.
You can apply to vote by post for:
- just 1 election
- a set period of time
- the maximum period allowed (up to 3 years)
If you apply for a postal vote for 3 years, we will contact you at the end of this period and ask if you want to re-apply. You can renew your postal vote by making a new application online.
Once a postal vote has been set up you will not be able to vote in person at a polling station, unless you cancel it first. Postal voting packs may only be sent 10 working days before an election.
You can also request a postal vote application form. Send your completed form back to us by post or email (as an attachment) to elections@haringey.gov.uk
Help with your postal vote application
If you are unable to upload your signature with your application, you may be eligible for a ‘signature waiver’.

Cancelling your postal vote
To cancel your postal vote, you must:
- contact us in writing (signed letter or via the online form)
- make sure we receive your cancellation no later than 5pm, 11 working days before the election
Returning your completed postal vote
Your postal vote pack will be sent to the address you gave on your application.
What to include when returning your postal vote:
- your completed ballot paper(s)
- your postal voting statement with your date of birth and your signature (unless you have been granted a signature waiver)
We will check your details against your application to keep your vote secure.
You must return your postal vote by 10pm on election day.
There are 3 ways you can return it:
- put it in the post using the prepaid envelope included (as soon as you receive it)
- hand it in at a Haringey polling station
- hand it in at 1 of our offices:
- George Meehan House (full address at the end of this page)
- Alexandra House, 10 Station Road, Wood Green, N22 7TR
If you hand in your postal vote, you will also need to fill in a declaration form, otherwise your vote will not be counted.
