The London DJ and MC Academy CIC presents Her Sound: Haringey's Women in the Music and Creative Industries, an inspiring evening celebrating the women of Haringey who are making their mark in the music and creative industries.
The event is designed for women who want to step into these fields but face obstacles—whether structural, societal, or personal. Our CEO will share her journey as a female DJ 20 years ago, navigating an industry where men controlled the opportunities and women were often pitted against each other, and why it drove her to create the company. She will discuss the barriers she faced, how she overcame them, and what needs to change today to create a fairer industry.
We will be joined by influential artists, content creators, and creatives who have worked with the Academy, sharing their experiences of breaking through gender biases, building careers, and supporting the next generation of women in the industry. The event will push forward the conversation on gender inequality in the creative sector and provide a space for women to build networks, gain insight, and access practical opportunities. Through lived experiences, real talk, and strategic discussions, we will explore ways to dismantle industry gatekeeping and accelerate meaningful change.
We recognise that not all women face the same barriers. Discussions will highlight the experiences of women from different backgrounds, including those from marginalised communities, and women balancing creative ambitions with caregiving responsibilities.
