Course Details

What is this course about?

 

This course will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including:

  • the need to produce timely and accurate work and to follow ethical principles
  • how to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital profit or loss,
  • the differences between trading for cash and trading on credit.
  • the role that software can have in bookkeeping and the benefits and risks that different types of software may bring.

Students will also develop the skills to:

  • process customer and supplier transactions,
  • enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for bank reconciliation.

 

 

Are there any entry requirements?

You must be aged 19 and over by the 31st of August 2024.  You should be assessed at working at Level 1 in both English and maths. You will also need to be able to access online learning resources including the AAT website.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

You would be invited to an informal face to face, online or telephone interview with a tutor to ensure that the course is suitable for you and will meet your needs.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught through classroom sessions on site at Haringey Learns, Wood Green Library. You will also be encouraged to log-on to the MS Teams digital classroom to access inbetween learning.

 

What feedback will I get?

You will get feedback from the tutor in class and on any assignments that you complete. You will also complete an Individual learning plan where you will record and discuss your progress with the tutor.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

You will be able to give your views to your Class Rep, in a feedback form at the end of the course or directly to your tutor or a manager during the course. You may also be asked to participate in surveys for funders or Ofsted.

What course can I do next?

You may progress to Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping or to further English, Maths, Digital or career development courses, depending on your aims and progress.

Additional information

You will have access to a MS Teams Digital classroom where you may access additional learning resources or communication from the Haringey Learns learning community.

You will also be offered a wide range of different wellbeing or engagement activities within the service.

Who is this course for?

This qualification course is for students who wish to pursue a range of careers in either the private or public sectors and looking to take on or develop roles such as accounts assistant or in procurement or finance.
