Haringey residents can look forward to improved and more accessible library facilities in the west of the borough, with Muswell Hill Library set to undergo a major refurbishment.
Muswell Hill Library will close from 26 June for improvement works which include installing a new lift and accessible toilet, new bespoke lighting, new furniture, interior redecoration and a reconfigured floorplan.
This is all part of Haringey Council’s major investment programme which has been investing over £4.9 million in libraries across the borough over a four-year period.
The renovated library is scheduled to reopen in spring 2024. During the closure, Muswell Hill Library users will be able to access library services, including events and activities for this year’s annual Summer Reading Challenge, at nearby Alexandra Park Library (Alexandra Park Rd, N22 7UJ), Hornsey Library (Haringey Park, N8 9JA) or online.
Young people preparing for exams are advised to use Hornsey Library, which has a larger quiet study space.

Items borrowed from Muswell Hill Library can be returned and renewed at any council-run library in Haringey, or at libraries in other boroughs which are part of The Libraries Consortium [link: https://www.haringey.gov.uk/news/residents-get-access-millions-books-haringey-completes-libraries-consortium-membership].
Cllr Emily Arkell, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure, said:
“In Haringey we know how important libraries are for our communities. These vital facilities are not just about books - they provide space for study, activities for families, places to meet, access to digital technology and so much more.
“We’re proud to be investing in our libraries across the borough, and I’m pleased that Muswell Hill is the latest one to undergo major improvements. I look forward to seeing residents benefit from an even better and more accessible library when it reopens next year.”
