Celebrate International Children’s Book Day at your local library!

It’s International Children’s Book Day tomorrow (Wednesday 2 April) and there are lots of ways Haringey children and families can celebrate it at their local library.

Occurring on Hans Christian Anderson’s birthday on an annual basis, kids from our borough can come and read their favourite books with their friends and family at Coombes Croft Library tomorrow afternoon (3:30pm-4:30pm).

We have recently launched a new Library of the Month campaign. Each month, we will highlight one of our fabulous libraries and the many community initiatives it is home to. In March, we took a look at Hornsey Library – which has recently celebrated its 60th birthday – and April will see Coombes Croft’s turn in the spotlight – so there’s never been a better time to pay a visit to this cherished local library.

There’s also a rainforest animal-themed bookmark craft session at around the same time (4pm-5pm) at Hornsey Library tomorrow.

With the Easter holidays honing in on the horizon too, there are plenty of arts and crafts activities across Haringey for youngsters to experience and enjoy.

You can draw daffodils with your child at Stroud Green and Harringay Library on consecutive Wednesdays (9 & 16 April, 2:30pm-4pm) or create decorative paper chains at Marcus Garvey Library on Tuesday 15 April (2:30pm-4pm).

They can make their own Easter animal puppets – from rabbits to spring chicks – at Hornsey Library on Wednesday 16 April (2:30pm-3:30pm, Suitable for ages 4+) and there’s another Easter-themed event at Coombes Croft Library on Saturday 12 April (12noon-1pm).

We’ll be holding a reading hour where you can read any book of your choice between 4pm and 5pm at Coombes Croft Library on Wednesday 23 April as part of our World Book Night celebrations.

In a concerted effort to ensure our library users and residents are availing themselves of all the benefits and services their local library has to offer, we’re organising tours from your friendly, local librarians.

Pop in during the designated time and ask for a tour of the library – we’ll be only too happy to assist you.
