Haringey remembers Srebrenica

The Haringey community gathered at George Meehan House on Monday to remember the victims of the Srebrenica genocide ahead of Srebrenica Memorial Day on 11 July.

Council leader Cllr Peray Ahmet joined Mayor of Haringey Cllr Lester Buxton, other councillors and community leaders to light candles in memory of the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide.

Mayor of Haringey Cllr Lester Buxton and Leader of the Council Cllr Peray Ahmet said:

“Today we came together as a community in Haringey to remember the 8,372 victims of the Srebrenica genocide, ahead of Srebrenica Memorial Day.

“This year’s theme is ‘Together We Are One’, a reminder of how important it is for all of us to come together to honour the victims of this awful crime, and to remain vigilant to the forces of hatred which aim to divide our communities.

“We were proud to see our diverse communities come together as one to send a powerful message of unity as we remember this tragic chapter in history and work together towards a more hopeful future.”
