A few standout highlights in Haringey libraries this week

Here are a few standout highlights of the fabulous and fun activities and events taking place in Haringey libraries throughout this week.
THIRTEEN's Third Exhibition Pic 1

Tuesday 22 April:

Today is the first day of the photographic group THIRTEEN’s third exhibition in The Original Gallery – a light and spacious venue in the heart of Crouch End – at Hornsey Library.

A group of accomplished and award-winning photographers, THIRTEEN have many solo and group exhibitions both in the UK and abroad to their credit.

Wednesday 23 April:

We’re holding a special reading hour event at our Library of the Month, Coombes Croft, from 4pm onwards as part of our World Book Night celebrations.

Come along and read any book of your choice to mark this global occasion!

In a concerted effort to ensure our library users and residents are availing themselves of all the benefits and services their local library has to offer, we’re organising tours from your friendly, local librarians.

Pop in during the designated time and ask for a tour of the library – we’ll be only too happy to assist you.

  • Coombes Croft Library: Monday 27 April, 1pm-2pm
  • Highgate Library: Thursday 24 April, 11am-12noon
  • Hornsey Library: Friday 25 April, 2pm-5pm
  • Marcus Garvey Library: Wednesday 23 April, 2:30pm-4pm
  • St Ann’s Library: Thursday 24 April, 5pm & 6pm
  • Stroud Green & Harringay Library: Wednesday 23 April, 12:30pm-1:30pm
  • Wood Green Library: Friday 25 April, 2pm-3pm

If you cannot make these dates, please do come in and ask and we’ll be happy to accommodate you if we can.

You can pick up a FREE copy of The Surprise Visitor by Cathy Bramley – the author of best-selling comedies Appleby Farm, Conditional Love, Ivy Lane, The Plumberry School of Comfort Food and Wickham Hall – while you are in one of our libraries as well.

Wood Green Library is hosting a special bookmark-making arts and crafts session from 11am to 12noon this morning – an activity that’s suitable for ages 0 – five-years-old.

There’s another arty experience at Hornsey Library, where we’ll be celebrating the birthdays, lives and works of two famous writers – Charlotte Bronte and William Shakespeare – by crafting bookmarks in their image between 4pm and 5pm.

Thursday 24 April:

Are you a die-hard Sci-Fi fan? Well, we’ve got an entire film festival dedicated entirely to you! Teleport yourself to Wood Green Library for 5pm this afternoon for our latest film screening – Star Trek – The Future Begins (2009, Certificate: 12A, Running time: 127 minutes).

Starring Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth, Simon Pegg and Zoe Saldana, the blurb for the film reads as follows: “The brash James T Kirk tries to live up to his father’s legacy with Mr Spock keeping him in check as the vengeful Romulan from the future creates black holes to destroy the Federation one planet at a time.”

The local book club at St Ann’s Library will be reviewing The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd from 6pm to 7pm this evening.

Friday 25 April:

We’ve got a knitting and crochet club for adults at Marcus Garvey Library between 3pm and 4:30pm. Bring along your needles and wools and come and join us!
