Statement on Finsbury Park events

Following the conclusion of six days of major events in Finsbury Park, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure Cllr Emily Arkell has issued a statement addressing concerns raised by some residents during the events.

Cllr Arkell said:

“Over the last two weekends we have seen some of the biggest names in music come to Haringey as part of the Finsbury Park major events programme.

“I know there has been a lot of concern about the impact of vibrations from the events. I would like to reassure residents that there is no evidence that vibrations from the events could cause damage to homes, and that strict controls were in place to ensure that noise from events was kept under control.

“Noise is actively monitored throughout the events and tightly controlled by the licence conditions. Sound levels are monitored in real time and independent measurements are taken by the council to ensure the licence conditions are adhered to. Anyone with a noise issue can request a noise officer to visit their home during the events.

“Last year event organisers Festival Republic commissioned a study of vibrations in homes close to the festival site, which recorded some low frequency vibrations which were attributed to festival audiences jumping in unison. These only lasted for extremely short periods of time and were at a level below the international standard levels at which vibration-induced damage to buildings has been credibly demonstrated.

“The major events programme in Finsbury Park brings a wide range of benefits, including around £1.2 million per year which is invested back into the park, as well as providing unique recreation opportunities for our young people. We will continue to work with event organisers and stakeholders to ensure that residents’ concerns are reviewed and that the impact of events on local residents is kept to a minimum.”
