On 12 July, the council announced a review of leisure provision in the borough to look at how it can best manage its leisure facilities going forward and provide the best service for residents.
As a result of this, the council is currently discussing a contractual exit with its leisure partner Fusion Lifestyle.
Updating residents on the progress of the review, Leader of the Councill Cllr Peray Ahmet and Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure Cllr Emily Arkell said:
“We know how important our leisure facilities are to residents across the borough, and the benefits of access to high quality fitness and wellbeing services.
“Last month, we announced a review of leisure provision to ensure that everyone in the borough can access the best quality facilities here in Haringey.
“We have enjoyed a good working relationship with our partner Fusion Lifestyle over the last decade. However, we have taken the decision that the time has come to look for a new way forward for the three centres that Fusion manages.
“As part of the review, we are currently seeking to agree a negotiated exit of Fusion from its contract with the council. This would allow us to take a new approach towards managing Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness, Park Road Pools and Fitness and Broadwater Farm Fitness Centre.
“We are keen to find an amicable way forward, and council representatives have met with Fusion this week to explore the timeframe for the transition.
“As a result of this process, we hope to deliver services which are more accountable to residents and where future concerns and maintenance issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently. This will also form part of our ambition to move towards a joined-up leisure and wellbeing service, giving residents access to the full range of support they need to live active and healthy lives.
“We have already seen from our experience of bringing New River Sport and Fitness back in-house that exploring alternative models for leisure centre management can help to increase usage and membership of centres, as well as ensuring more inclusive facilities and activities.
“We will update residents on this process every step of the way. In the meantime, we continue to work with Fusion Lifestyle towards reopening the pools at Tottenham Green, and to provide a high quality and accessible leisure service across the three centres that Fusion currently manages.”
