Artists and makers from across Haringey are getting to work on fabulous creations in preparation for the Haringey Feast, a major celebration of culture and creativity in the borough.
25 Haringey creatives have been given up to £2000 funding from Haringey Council to work on a wide range of handmade items or performances in partnership with local community groups. A series of collaborative workshops is already underway, engaging over 2000 Haringey residents and involving over 250 artists and performers.
Their diverse and eclectic creations will be shared with the public at Alexandra Palace in November.
This follows an open call to the borough’s creative community which received a total 76 responses, highlighting the thriving cultural scene in Haringey.
Some of the projects which have been funded include:
- Beautiful flower bouquets made from reused plastic bottles in collaborative workshops organised by PLASTIQUE by Sian.
- A new rap song written and produced by musician and songwriter Wizzy Wow in collaboration with young adults.
- 114 metres of beautiful bunting produced by the local community at the Trove Market.
- African table coasters made from recycled bottle tops and African cloth by Paulsimna Creatives.
The winning entries were selected by a panel of the borough’s cultural luminaries including performance poet Kieron Rennie, art director Rose Daly and interior designer Kierra Campbell.
Cllr Emily Arkell, Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Leisure, said:
“In Haringey we’re proud of our unique creative scene, which contributes so much to our borough. I’m delighted that we have the opportunity to support and shine a light on our wonderful artists and makers through the Haringey Feast project.
