“Along with everyone in Haringey, I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about the fatal shooting on Waltheof Gardens in Tottenham today. This is a terrible loss, and our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.
“The fact this happened during the morning rush hour is deeply concerning. I would like to reassure the whole community we are actively working together with residents, partners and the police to make sure all our residents feel safe and secure while out and about in the borough.
“The Metropolitan Police have arrested a 56-year-old man on suspicion of murder, and we stand ready to continue to support them in any way we can.
“The police believe this was an isolated incident and the wider public is not at risk, but detectives are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you have information that could help the investigation, please call 101 or ‘X’ @MetCC quoting CAD 1613/15OCT.
“You can also provide information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Every life lost is one too many and no family should have to experience such a tragedy.”
