Everyone at Haringey Council was saddened to hear the news that Erline, the borough’s first Black female Mayor, had passed away.

A staunch advocate for Haringey’s children and young people who championed their rights, Erline was a ward councillor for West Green in the 1990s (1990-98) and 2000s (2002-06).

Erline was the Deputy Mayor between 1993 and 1994 before carving out her own slice of Haringey history a year later (1994-1995) by becoming the borough’s first Black female Mayor. She served a further term as Mayor from 2003 to 2004.

A warm and wonderful woman, Erline made her mark in performing this civic duty twice and achieved a great many other things besides.

Erline held her family in high regard and they can look back upon all of her achievements with a great sense of pride.

She will be remembered as a key figure in the Haringey community. As a mark of respect, a minute’s silence was held for Erline at the Full Council meeting in November 2024.

Erline will be fondly remembered and – on behalf of the people of Haringey – we send our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.
