Located in Northumberland Park, it ensures our operatives have everything they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively while prioritising their welfare.
Leader of the Council Cllr Peray Ahmet and Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Resident Services & Tackling Inequality, visited the depot, which is run with our waste partners Veolia.
Their tour included exploring the grounds and workshop, as well as meeting the dedicated staff who work hard both on the ground and behind the scenes.
Winter months often bring wet weather conditions, presenting additional challenges for our operatives. The depot provides a dedicated drying room, allowing staff to change clothes, stay warm, and dry off.
Additionally, a physiotherapist is on-site weekly to assist operatives in managing the physical demands of their job, ensuring their well-being and preventing muscle strains.
Opened in 2022, the Watermead Way depot has transformed a former brownfield site, previously home to a sandpaper factory, into a hub of sustainable council services.
The depot boasts eco-friendly features, supporting waste management and street cleansing teams in delivering high-quality services while addressing the climate emergency.
