Following the news that Far East Consortium (FEC) have entered into a strategic partnership with AMTD IDEA Group to drive forward the future of the historic Hornsey Town Hall, Leader Cllr Peray Ahmet, has issued the following statement:

“We want assurances that the objectives that were set out for the long-term future of Hornsey Town Hall and the community benefits it will bring for our residents will now be delivered.

“I share the frustrations that it has taken far too long to bring forward proposals for the arts centre element of the project. Given this new agreement has been put in place I want to see action and activities on the ground and ensure that the partners live up to the commitments previously made.

“We are pleased that the Town Hall has now been removed from the English Heritage at-risk register, following the refurbishment work. We also celebrated a major milestone when new council homes on this site were completed and took us to more than 700 in total as part of Haringey’s ambitious council house building programme.

“We are now working to ensure the community use and access agreement is adhered to.

“We will be meeting with both partners urgently to discuss their new arrangement and to press them for a more definitive and deliverable timeline and to share their vision for the future of the arts centre.

“Our position remains that whoever controls the site will be expected to live up to the commitments made to the community to restore cultural and community use to the town hall.”
