Overall, Haringey Youth Justice Service has been rated ‘Good’ with outstanding features following an inspection by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) from the 2nd – 6th December.
The report, published today (4 March), commended the dedication of the Haringey Youth Justice Strategic Partnership Board for prioritising children and their families in the youth justice system. By using data, they have transformed how they adapt, improve, and support innovative practices.
Inspectors also highlighted the staff's key strengths in addressing disproportionality and assisting vulnerable groups. Their passion and skill in making a positive impact on children's lives were also noted.
As part of the visit, inspectors spoke to children, parents and staff across all agencies and conducted up to 16 focus groups. This enabled the team to conduct a thorough review of our local arrangements to inform their findings.
Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families and Cllr Ajda Ovat, Cabinet Member for Communities, at Haringey Council, said:
As a community, it is our duty to ensure that every child has access to the support and opportunities they need, regardless of their background or challenges.
The outstanding work of the Haringey Youth Justice Service is a testament to our collective commitment to prioritise the wellbeing and development of our children within the youth justice system.. The recent inspection results highlight the dedication and passion of our staff, partners, and volunteers.
