Youth Justice Service (YJS)

We are a multi-agency service made up of youth justice social workers and support staff including police, health, probation and education.

Children and young people known to the service may experience a wide range of risks associated with their offending behaviour including:

  • school absence
  • poor mental health
  • significant trauma
  • negative peer influences
  • special educational needs
  • poor relationships
  • high risk of safety and wellbeing
  • risk of harm to other
  • risk of criminal and sexual exploitation

The aims and objectives of the service are to:

  • prevent offending and re-offending for children and young people aged between 10 and 17 years
  • encourage and inspire children and young people to help them maximise their potential and become responsible members of the community
  • ensure we have a child-first approach – we put children and young people at the heart of what we do to ensure they have the right support and influence our service delivery and decision making

Restorative Justice

The Turnaround programme

A voluntary Early Help intervention offering support to a child and their family as soon as a problem comes up.

The aim is to reduce the risk that children will enter the statutory Youth Justice System.
