Last night (4 March), the Haringey Planning Sub-Committee approved a new scheme made up of 100% council rent homes with priority when built given to local tenants in the area.
The development, which will become part of the adjacent Sir Frederick Messer Estate, provides much-needed family-size accommodation, including 25 three-bedroom homes.
It will contribute to the council’s target to deliver 3,000 new council homes by 2031, 2,000 of which are already underway or completed.
Cllr Sarah Williams, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning, said:
In the face of the housing crisis, there is an overwhelming need for new council homes, and we are doing everything we can to make this happen.
This new development will bring forward much-needed family-sized accommodation for residents with children living locally as part of the delivery of our ambitious and award-winning home-building programme.
The scheme will deliver high quality homes built to the best design standards with lots of energy saving features that keep running costs low.
Tenants will benefit from private balconies, extensive green landscaping, more than 100 cycle spaces and high-performance energy saving measures such as solar panels, green roofs and air source heat pumps.
Set to be built on the corner of St Ann’s Road and Seven Sisters Road, the scheme is car free, except for the provision of seven wheelchair accessible Blue Badge parking spaces.
