The Leader of Haringey Council has written to the government urging them to consider fairer funding reform for local authorities.

In a letter to the Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner MP and Minister of State Jim McMahon MP, Cllr Peray Ahmet says funding to local authorities is not only a matter of fairness but there is insufficient money overall for councils to meet the increase in demand and costs for public services.

Haringey is experiencing a funding emergency following 14 years of austerity by the previous government which means the council’s core grant funding to deliver services and meet the needs of residents is around £143m less in real terms than it was in 2010/11.
