Haringey’s aspiring athletes excel again at London Youth Games with inaugural Para Trophy triumph

Haringey clinched Para Trophy glory for the very first time and claimed a third-place finish in the Jubilee standings at this year’s London Youth Games.

The borough’s aspiring, young athletes maintained our highly impressive recent record in the Jubilee competition, where they once again achieved a podium placing (Third, 961 points) in finishing behind the runners-up Richmond upon Thames (Second, 963 points) and champions Bromley (First, 988 points).

This latest result means Haringey haven’t finished outside of the top three in any of the last five years of active competition (First: 2022 & 2023, Second: 2019 & 2024, Third: 2025) - a far cry from placing 31st out of the 33 London boroughs in this capital-wide tournament back in 1995.

Such a reversal in fortunes is a testament to the dedication and hard work by all concerned since that time and Haringey were the only borough to compete in every available event for this 2025 edition. We had just six teams 30 years ago.

Our far greater competitiveness at the top of the table is spreading too, with our young athletes with disabilities/SEND winning the Para Trophy to carve out their own slice of Haringey history and continue our formidable form in youth-level sport throughout this decade.

Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Emily Arkell, said:

I’m delighted that our young athletes with disabilities/SEND have won the Para Trophy for Haringey at this year’s London Youth Games.

Their victory underlines our commitment to ensure sport is more accessible and inclusive for people of all ages and abilities in our borough.

I’d also like to congratulate the athletes who maintained our tremendous track record in the Jubilee competition, where we haven’t finished lower than third since 2019.

That’s no mean feat for us here in Haringey when you consider we’re up against the 32 other London boroughs on an annual basis.

The Haringey Sports Development Trust’s Burk Gravis commented:

It has been another fantastic and simply outstanding effort from our youngsters, team managers, coaches and schools, with support from clubs and my small team of staff.

A big thank you must go to the staff at the London Youth Games and Haringey Council’s Leisure team, but most of all to the Tottenham Grammar School Foundation, who have been the one organisation that has allowed us to progress to where we are and whose continued funding support has been immense.

The results we’ve achieved over the last five years have been phenomenal and – without the support of the clubs, schools, teachers and Haringey Council’s Leisure team – we would never have achieved what we have done.

Haringey entered teams in every event at the London Youth Games this year, which is a tremendous credit to everyone connected to sport in our borough.

Everyone at Haringey Council congratulates all at #TeamHaringey for their performances and results at the 2025 edition of the London Youth Games.
