Haringey’s future takes the stage at Tottenham Town Hall

The voices of Haringey’s young people rang loud last night as they took centre stage at a Full Council meeting held at Tottenham Town Hall.
Full council - Youth takeover

Members of Haringey’s Youth Panel came together with the Cabinet and councillors to share their ideas, concerns, and aspirations for the borough’s future.

This unique meeting gave young people a space to speak up and take the initiative. From safety, mental health, SEND, arts, housing, social media and youth justice, the evening tackled the issues that matter most to Haringey’s next generation.

This was followed by a Q&A session with Cabinet Members, along with information on how to vote and run in the upcoming Youth Council elections.

Young participants went beyond sharing their views - they offered real solutions and ideas. Their suggestions for council support were bold, thoughtful, and rooted in lived experience, especially highlighting the need for accessible social activities for those with special educational needs (SEND).

Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said:

Since the last youth-led Full Council, the young people’s panel has been instrumental in shaping policy. Their scrutiny work and consultations have directly influenced our Youth Strategy and brought community safety concerns to the forefront.

They’ve widened democratic participation and shown us what leadership looks like.

We’re incredibly proud of their achievements and excited to see the inspiring leaders they’ll grow into. They truly represent Haringey’s future.

The event marks a growing movement in Haringey to embed youth voices in governance and ensure that the borough’s future is shaped by those who live in it.
