More space, more smiles: Brook Special School expands for children with autism

The Brook Special School has opened two brand-new classrooms at Broadwater Farm, creating space for autistic children to learn, play, and thrive.

The classrooms provide space for up to 18 pupils with ten students already based within the provision.

Designed to blend seamlessly with the existing school environment, the new building includes two teaching rooms, a quiet room for one-to-one focus work, an adapted toilet, interactive whiteboards, and dedicated spaces for breaks and workstations.

The new outdoor facilities include dedicated space for bikes, a built-in trampoline, and an all-ages climbing frame. Inside, a soft playroom offers children the chance to build physical skills, practise self-regulation, and enjoy cooperative play in a safe, supportive environment.

The new facilities are open to pupils from both The Brook and The Willow schools, benefiting the entire school community.

Cllr Zena Brabazon, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families, said:

The new classrooms at The Brook will offer vital support for children with autism. Having a dedicated space is essential, giving pupils the opportunity to learn at their own pace in an environment designed around their needs.

Inclusion is at the heart of our vision, and we are committed to ensuring that students with SEND receive the same recognition and opportunities as every other child.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible journey.

Maureen Duncan, Headteacher at The Brook Special Primary School, said:

We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to add two more classrooms to the school and to welcome more children. The project went more smoothly than expected, and the new facilities are already proving to be a real asset to our community.

The expansion, completed in under two years, reflects the school’s commitment to creating inclusive, supportive environments where children can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

The additional classrooms will help pupils build friendships, strengthen communication skills, and access sensory resources tailored to their needs.

This milestone marks a significant step forward in ensuring every child in Haringey has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed in a setting designed with their needs at heart.
