Pupil posters support 20mph roads

More streets will join the borough-wide 20mph network, making it safer for everyone who walks, cycles or drives through Haringey’s neighbourhoods.

From this week (1 December 2025), stretches on nine roads will see the speed limit change - giving drivers more time to react and reduce the chances of serious injury.

Seven creative posters designed by local school children will be used to help promote the new limit and remind the public why slowing down matters.

Cllr Seema Chandwani, Cabinet Member for Resident Services and Tackling Inequality said:

Driving at 20mph is a small change that makes a big difference to the health and wellbeing of our communities.

It means safer crossings for children, more confidence for cyclists and better journeys for older residents and people with mobility challenges.

This plays an important part of Haringey achieving its Vision Zero objective which is to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from road collisions in our streets by 2041, while increasing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all.

Cllr Mike Hakata, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, said:

Every death and serious injury on our roads leaves a lasting impact on our families and communities. In Haringey, we see around 700 people injured in road collisions each year and tragically 15 people have lost their lives over the last five years.

National and international studies show that a person is far more likely to suffer serious injuries or death if hit by a vehicle driven at 30mph compared to 20mph.

This change is about saving lives and ensuring we reach our Vision Zero goal of eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on our roads.

The 20mph speed limit will apply on the following roads:
• Boreham Road, N22
• Ferry Lane, N17 - From Station Road to the boundary with the London Borough of Waltham Forest
• Fortis Green, N2 - From Queens Avenue to the boundary with the London Borough of Barnet.
• Great North Road, N2 - From the common boundary of No.2/4 Great North Road to the boundary with the London Borough of Barnet.
• Lordship Lane, N17 and N22
• Muswell Hill, N10
• Priory Road, N8
• The Roundway, N17 – the western arm
• Westbury Avenue, N22
