Scavenger hunt
The interns and I took part of a scavenger hunt and split into two groups. I led the first group, while Reishai led the second. Using a printed map (no Google Maps allowed, or we would lose points), we explored Wood Green and completed tasks like taking a photo by a park tree and filming a short video about our job interests.
One key challenge was visiting The Mall to learn about local services. At the Post Office, we discovered it offers more than mailing letters, it provides banking services, bill payments, passport applications, and even travel insurance. At the NHS Surgery, we learned it is where patients register for a GP, book appointments, and access services like vaccinations and health checks. Answering questions about these services evaluated our teamwork and attention to detail.
Filming the job-interest video was tough at first, especially at JobCentrePlus, but we worked together and finished everything. In the end, my team won free chocolate cookies. Even though we lost points for being late, we did not give up. I was exhausted after redoing tasks, but overall, it was a fun and rewarding experience.
Careers fair
We attended a Careers Event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which was a great chance to explore career options and meet employers. The venue was remarkably busy, and I felt nervous at first because I am not used to crowded places. However, I managed to speak with a few employers and complete the task sheet, which included asking questions like “What is this role about?” and “Do I need any qualifications for an apprenticeship or job training?” I also observed workplace boundaries and dress codes, which was interesting.
Since I am interested in working in the computer industry such as administration or technician roles, I picked up some useful points. Despite the rainy weather and a bus termination that forced us to walk 25 minutes to the stadium, we all made it at the right time and had a wonderful experience. It was stressful being in a crowded area, but I stayed calm and knew where to go. Overall, it was an enjoyable and valuable day.
Bowling and Nando’s trip
On the last day of term, the interns and I went on a well-deserved bowling trip after successful first term at our placements. We decided to split into two groups. My group included myself, Max, Tayfur and Harry, while the other group had Reishai, my tutor Albion, and our job coaches Asli and Nabilah. Max started strong, but I soon took the lead by knocking down pins consistently. Near the end, Tayfur unexpectedly won by a small margin. Even though I felt a bit disappointed to be losing by a fine margin, we all had fun and enjoyed friendly competition.
After bowling, we took a short walk to Nando’s, where we all relaxed and enjoyed a meal together. It was the perfect way to end the morning after an energetic and competitive game. Sitting around the table gave us time to chat, laugh, and unwind as a group. The atmosphere felt warm, friendly, and positive, and it was nice spending time together outside our usual internship routine. Sharing food and conversations helped us bond even more, and it brought the whole group closer. It was a memorable and enjoyable way to finish the social event before heading into the Christmas break.
