Somerford Grove and mural
The Council’s Parks team worked closely with residents and the wider community in 2023 to create an improvement plan for Somerford Grove Open Space next to Lea Valley Primary School and the Haringey Play Adventure Playground. Co-created with the community, the area’s younger residents are now enjoying:
- play equipment
- an adventure course
- new lighting and street furniture
- murals and banners
The two new murals were designed by artist Petra Haynes with local school children. Petra is known for her hyper realistic nature inspired artworks and vibrant colours. The new banners were designed by a local artist.
Northumberland Park Station
Working together with the local community and muf architects in 2022, plans were developed to enhance the area around Northumberland Park Station and make it easier to access the green spaces of the Lee Valley Regional Park. The project also aimed to create a cleaner, safer, accessible, attractive and more sustainable environment around the station for residents, local businesses and visitors.
In 2024, improvements were delivered and include:
- signage to the Lee Valley Regional Park / Northumberland Park on either side of the station
- rain gardens with tree planting
- benches, bins, bike stands and bollards and paving
- environmentally friendly lighting
- trees and planters
Bar Park in Northumberland Park
In 2024 a new 120m² bar park opened in 2024 next to Kenneth Robbins House. It was developed by Project 2020 Youth Hub and not-for-profit organisations Callisseum and Raza Sana, and funded by Gymbox and Haringey Council. It provides a community space where people of all ages and abilities can congregate to socialise, exercise and practise everything from low-impact routines to the popular fitness practice, callisthenics.
For more information about Callisseum, please contact: juan@calisseum.com or speak to the team at Project 2020 (ground floor of Kenneth Robbins House).
Tree planting
In 2023, our park’s team surveyed and planted 70 additional street trees between Down Lane Park and Somerford Grove and on Park Lane and with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Levelling Up Parks Fund.
