Documents and multimedia

Adding or updating documents to the website

When adding files, do not leave spaces in the filename as it creates a % in the URL. Use underscores.

So: haringey_air_quality_annual_status_report_2022.pdf. Not: haringey air quality annual status report 2022.pdf.

If an updated version of the document needs to be added, just replace it in the media library. Then any pages displaying the file will automatically be showing the latest version.

Make sure to add the number of pages in the document.

Bulk uploading

You can also bulk upload all media types. Go to Media library > Bulk upload.

Adding a document to a page

If you want to add the file as part of a sentence:

  1. Add the file to the media library.
  2. Go to the place on the page where you want to add it.
  3. Write and select the text you want to make a hyperlink like ‘Download the Council Tax guidance’.
  4. Click the ‘link’ icon on the toolbar.
  5. Search for the file – results will be grouped, with media items last.
  6. Select the file.
  7. The document will be added to the page.

You can also add a document in a blue, document standout style

Adding images and videos

Add images and videos via the media library.

To include an image or video on the page:

  1. Go to the page where you want to have the image or video.
  2. Click on insert from media library.
  3. Select the image video, this will insert it into the page.

For images add alt text and set the various crop styles.

Most pages do not need images. Only add an image if it improves the written content.

Examples of when it's OK to use an image include if you’re writing:

  • about mobility devices and an image helps the user understand what the device looks like
  • content encouraging people to think about fostering and you want to show images of foster carers and foster children to humanize the content and bring the experience to life
  • about booking wedding and civil partnership ceremonies and you want to show what some of the venues looks like
